Some cozy self-care tips to help you through the fall
Too often we fall into the habit of prioritizing everyone and everything else above our own well-being. We get so wrapped up in the life and goals we’re chasing that we forget to stop and, “smell the roses”. I personally am guilty of this bad habit.
For this reason, I have to dedicate self-care days to myself or I simply won’t have them. If you too struggle with learning how to appreciate yourself, take a look at some of my helpful hints below to get you started.
1. Dedicating time to yourself
The first step of any good self-care routine is to set aside a designated time and or day that you can just focus on yourself. This may seem impossible with work, friends, and all of your other competing priorities, but it’s a must. A non-negotiable. So whether you have an hour to spare or an entire day, find this time or create it.
And make sure to hold yourself accountable by sticking to it. One of the easiest ways to do this is to block off your time. Add this time to your calendar in advance and make it a priority to honor this scheduled time or day.
2. Deciding what to do
Now that you’ve set aside this time for yourself, decide how you want to spend it. Do you want to go walk aimlessly through the aisles of TJMaxx? How about a massage? Or maybe even just stay in bed all day and cozy up with a good book? The most important factor is how much money, if any, you want to spend. There are plenty of ways to regroup on a budget. See some of my favorite budget-friendly options below.
- Baking my favorite pumpkin-flavored treat
- Cozying up with a cup of hot cocoa for a good Netflix binge
- Taking a long, bubbly bath
- Getting a manicure or pedicure
- Taking my dog for a nice, chilly walk
- Organizing a closet or room I’ve been putting off
- Going wine tasting with some friends
- Getting a massage
- Going on a shopping spree at my favorite store
- Warming up under the fire with a good book
Whatever you decide to do, make sure it recharges your batteries. By this I mean, some of us recharge by taking a day and not interacting with a single soul. Meanwhile, others may cringe at the thought of spending an entire day alone. But, that’s the beauty of self-care, it is entirely up to YOU. If what your mind and body really need right now is a good laugh with some of your favorite people, then that’s what you should do!
3. Book it and ENJOY!
Once you’ve decided how you’ll be spending your designated self-care time, make your plans official! Book that massage or set a date for lunch with friends. And then, enjoy yourself and really be in the moment. Step away from all of the lingering to-dos or wandering thoughts, and truly appreciate the time that you have dedicated to yourself.
Remember, you deserve it.
