It’s officially fall! But if you’re anything like me, you’ve been in the fall spirit since mid-august. Thankfully, now we won’t be wrongfully judged for our love of fall and can enjoy all the fall fun, guilt-free!
As a fall girly through and through, this is hands down my favorite time of the year. I always look forward to getting together with my friends for spooky-fun activities. My top five things to do each fall are to host a movie night, have a spooky craft session, visit a pumpkin patch, go to a haunted house/amusement park, and have a cozy bonfire.
Keep reading below for a full break-out of how I plan these events and some of my favorite fall spots, especially for my fellow Charlotte natives.
Movie night
I’m a big scary movie girl, so nothing makes me happier than spending a cozy night in and watching some good spooks, though, I’m also not opposed to a Harry Potter rerun. If you’re looking for some spooky suggestions, here are some of my current favs:
- No One Will Save You (Hulu)
- Pet Sematary and Pet Sematary: Bloodlines (Paramount+)
- Crossroads Cinema at Camp North End: Catch your favorite movies at CNE every Thursday until 10/26!
Spooky craft session
Back in June I had this great idea to host a craft night with my friends and ever since we’ve made it a monthly tradition. In September we had a DIY candle session and in October we are planning to have a spooky themed-craft night.
- DIY Pumpkin Wreath: This is definitely a little more intricate of a craft night, but still one I’d recommend. I typically visit my local Dollar Tree and rack up all the items I would need for my wreath which makes for a super inexpensive craft night!
- Boos and Prints Night: I actually saw this trend on Tik-Tok, where people thrift old paintings than revamp them by adding their own little ghostly touch. This is an easier craft night if you’re looking for a lighter prep.
- Hand-crafted candles: I’m officially done buying candles! After hosting the DIY candle night, I have come to realize I spend way too much money on candles when I can clearly just make my own. I bought little pumpkin-shaped ceramic containers from Dollar Tree, candle wax melts, and ordered a candle making set off of Amazon.
Haunted Amusements
If you haven’t learned by now, I LOVE me a good spook. So going to a scary themed amusement park or a haunted house, is right up my dark alley. Two of my favorites to visit in Charlotte are:
- SCarowinds: This is an annual Halloween event hosted by Carowinds. It’s a perfect mixture of fear and fun!
- Hickory Grove Haunted Trail: As one of the original haunted trails in the Charlotte area, the Hickory Grove Haunted Trail is truly a must see. You won’t be disappointed!
- Scarrigan Farms: Not only does Carrigan Farms offer a beautiful pumpkin patch, but when the sun goes down, the frights come out. Don’t miss out on these terrifyingly good haunted trails this season!
Pumpkin Patch Visit
I truly love me a good pumpkin patch and try to go closer to mid-October so I have the chance to put my pumpkins out and maybe even carve them before Halloween! Here are some of my current favs for pumpkin picking near Charlotte.
- Charlotte Knights Pumpkin Patch (only on 10/7/23!)
- Carrigan Farms in Mooresville, NC
- Hall Family Farm in Lancaster, SC (I actually went last weekend and loved it! There was so much to do besides just picking pumpkins and the food was great. 10/10 recommend!)
Bonfire
My favorite thing about being in a house versus an apartment, is having my own fire pit and therefore being able to host bonfires. A super simple and yet always memorable thing to do with friends is to gather around a bonfire and share some of those horror dating stories and just have a great laugh together. A couple of goodies I always make sure to have ready for the group are:
- Smores cookies
- Spiked hot cocoa
- Apple cider mimosas
Whether you’re looking to tap into your crafty side or just for a spooky good time with some friends, there’s definitely plenty of fall options for you.
So get your ghouls together, and enjoy the season before it’s gone!
